Automatic Expungement in Michigan

Michigan began automatic expungement in April 2023. Up to four eligible misdemeanors are set aside automatically 7 years after sentencing, and up to two eligible felonies 10 years after sentencing or release from incarceration, whichever is later. Assaultive crimes, serious misdemeanors, offenses with a 10-year-plus maximum, and human-trafficking offenses are excluded — those still require a petition.
